Back at it

Soooo it’s been quite a while since I last posted. I could chalk it up to the significant amount of traveling I did or the activities I participated in but honestly it I had nothing to write about. Having returned to this cold climate and a working lifestyle although I do things and see things everyday, to me they aren’t noteworthy. Primarily because I am neutralized to everything “Canada”.

Today I feel I do have something “noteworthy”.

Last week I started a copywriting class. This week we were talking about tailoring your message to your audience. Using specific emotions and words to evoke a feeling and make a connection. One visual example that was used was Mad Men. Our professor showed a clip featuring Don Draper selling “The Carousel”. After watching the short clip I thought to myself I LOVE MAD MEN! It has been featured in every single marketing class I’ve taken since it started whatever number of seasons ago. It has actually been listed as homework – this is one class I don’t have trouble completing the out of class work for ;)

Not only did this class emphasize the importance of Mad Men, but the impact words can have. It’s amazing how much a word or phrase can mean to an individual or group. How they can create connections that would otherwise not exist. This is a power I hope this class will teach me to harness, but I guess we’ll see!
